Are You Using Napoleon Hill’s First Step To Riches?

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Here is a quick summary of Napoleon Hill’s first step to riches.

Desire is the cornerstone of success.

It is the starting point of all achievement, be it personal, professional, political,
financial, or anything imaginable.

If desire is lacking, then regardless of what other steps might be taken on the
path to riches, the results will also be lacking.

It only takes a minor amount of weak desire to infect, pollute, and undermine achievement.

Remember: a small amount of fire leads to a small amount of heat . Yet , on the
other hand: a blazing inferno is virtually unstoppable.

Your first step is clear and straightforward: work yourself into a white heat of desire!

“Champions aren’t made in the gyms. Champions are made
from something they have deep inside them - a DESIRE, a
dream, a vision.”
- Muhammad Ali

On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being a burning desire and 1 being no desire at all) what is your level of desire?

5 Steps To Conquering Limitations (Napoleon Hill’s Process)

Saturday, October 13th, 2007

In Think And Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill talks about how to conquer limitations and handle heartbreaking news.

The most powerful example he gave was his own personal struggle to help his son hear (which was no small effort since his son was born without ears).

You’ve probably read the story so I won’t go into it but lets uncover Napoleon Hill’s process because it reveals how you can handle your life’s greatest challenges.

First, a doctor said his son was born with no ears and he’d be a deaf mute all his life.

Immediately after hearing that news, here’s what Napoleon Hill thought:

“I challenged the doctor’s opinion. … I, too, reached a DECISION, and rendered an opinion, but I expressed the opinion silently, in the secrecy of my own heart.”

Let me ask you. How do you respond to heartbreaking news? Do you give up your life to the ‘experts’? Or do you make your own DECISION (7th Step Towards Riches)?

In truth, it’s never easy deal with heartbreaking news but time and time again the impact of that news depends on your mindset and your ability to trust yourself.

Napoleon Hill is not alone in his approach.

Dr. Bernie Siegel in his book Love, Medicine and Miracles talks about cancer patients whose grapefruit sized tumors “melted away like snowballs on a hot stove”. Much of it having to do with the patients DECISION on how to respond to the expert doctors.

They refused to accept limitations being thrown at them. How do you respond to limitations being thrown at you?

Consider the below words from Napoleon Hill

“Nature could send me a child without ears, but Nature could not induce
me to accept the REALITY of the affliction. ” Napoleon Hill

So don’t let REALITY get in the way of what you truly desire.

How badly do you want to succeed?

Do you want it badly enough to ignore the reality of any obstacles you face?

How can you ignore reality? Well, Napoleon Hill revealed that too.

But this time he draws from the genius of Emerson.

Emerson Said:
“The whole course of things goes to teach us faith. We need only obey. There is guidance for each of us, and by lowly listening, we shall hear the right word.”

FOCUS on the first line of that quote because it tells you how to free yourself from the bondage of ‘reality’.

The answer is faith.

Let me summarize.

1. Know what you DESIRE
2. DECIDE to reject obstacles and the reality of the moment
3. Take it as a lesson in FAITH

Here are a couple more Napoleon Hill quotes that reveal the steps to use:
4. “Every day I renewed the pledge I had made to myself” ( never stop trying)
5. “What could I do about it? Somehow I would find a way”

NOTE: In this article we’ve talked about how to handle the toughest news and limitations. Fortunately, you can use the same the process for handling any limitations… including self-imposed limitations.

I used to think writing was too hard and that I wasn’t good enough to do it. But as you can tell from this blog that self-imposed limitation is melting away(I still wrestle with it sometimes).

I challenge you to identify and conquer any limitations. Use the 5 steps. And if you ever meet with unfortunate news remember all the options you have and trust in your own power.

DECIDE that your life it too important to waste on small things.

Well, my rich friend, that’s it for this post.

Why ‘Action’ is Not One Of Napoleon Hill’s Steps To Riches?

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

Think And Grow Rich identifies 13 steps to riches and action is NOT one of them. Why?
Many people think that action is the key to success.

Can it be that ‘action’ is not necessary to achieving success?

I’ve thought about it quite and bit and I believe I have the answer. You can see it by clicking here to see the article on my ThinkRichToday.com website.

Feel free to leave your thoughts about why action is not one of the Steps To Riches? Or read the article and let me know what you think.

Are You A Think And Grow Rich Artist?

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

The Art of Thinking And Growing Rich

The dancer calls her body her instrument. Sculptors chisel stone. Painters stir paint. Artists can lay hands on the raw material of their art.

But what about the “Think And Grow Rich” artist? What’s their instrument?

My guess is that the Think And Grow Rich artist has 13 magical paintbrushes (one for each step to riches). And their canvas is their own life.

The Think And Grow Rich artist works like Van Gogh who said “I dream my painting and then I paint my dream”

The Think And Grow Rich artist doesn’t produce abstract pieces. Their thrilling roller coaster rags to riches artwork tend to be surreal.

They start with a definite purpose then then they put their magical paintbrushes to work. Each stroke is a thought that brings their dream to life.

Of course, just because you claim to be a Think And Grow Rich artist doesn’t mean you’re ready to produce a master piece. And you don’t become a master overnight.

Lets get guidance from the master himself, Napoleon Hill.

QUOTES ABOUT THE THINK AND GROW RICH ARTIST

"The great leaders of business, industry, finance, and the great
artists
, musicians, poets, and writers became great, because they
developed the faculty of creative imagination. "
"The great artists, writers, musicians, and poets become great,
because they acquire the habit of relying upon the “still small voice”
which speaks from within, through the faculty of creative imagination.
It is a fact well known to people who have “keen” imaginations that
their best ideas come through so-called “hunches.”

"Sex energy is the creative energy of all genii. There never has
been, and never will be a great leader, builder, or artist lacking in
this driving force of sex."

It’s clear that the Think And Grow Rich artist feeds on insight from infinite intelligence, feasts on passion and purpose.

Even though your magical paintbrushes are the same as others the work you produce will be unique.

As you think about your life let me ask. How is your painting coming along?

Are you sketching or are you using the vibrant colors of passion, love and achievement?

Are you using crayons? I hope not.

Utimately, with your 13 magic paintbrushes you will create a masterpiece. It’s called your life.

Are You Using Napoleon Hill’s Fourth Step To Riches?

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

Another Think And Grow Rich video is in the works. I’m creating it today.

It’ll show why the vast majority of people fail to Think And Grow Rich while only a select few seem to fly to the top of success mountain.

You’ll be happy to hear that it doesn’t just point out problems. It gives you real tips and solutions that you can use as soon as you see it.

I think it’ll be ready for you next week (my fingers are crossed for luck).

In the last post, I mentioned Napoleon Hill’s fourth step to riches, specialized knowledge. Let me follow up with a little more about specialized knowledge.

Read the below quote from a relatively new billionaire:

“Every night I took home a different software manual, and I read it. Of course,
the reading was captivating. Peachtree, PFS, DBase, Lotus, ACCPAC…
Every night I read some after getting home, no matter how late.”

The above quote is from a guy who, at 24, worked in a computer store.16 years
later he bought a 41 million dollar Gulfstream jet and his own basketball team.
In 1999 he sold Broadcast.com for 5.7 billion dollars to yahoo.com. His name is Mark Cuban.

Mark Cuban’s specialized knowledge paid off handsomely. After working all day
he’d go home and, “no matter how late” he’d read those incredibly dry manuals.

What about you?

Are you reading the manuals?

Are you using specialized knowledge?

Let me add one more point.

Mark Cuban became a billionaire because he embraced new technology and
then used it to give millions of people what they WANTED.

Are you embracing technology as well? Are you finding a way to give
people what THEY want?

I want to follow Mark Cuban’s lead. I knew people had problems actually applying the steps to riches to their life. People want a fast and easy way to track their progress as they use the steps to riches every day. That’s why I created Think Rich Software.

Ok, my rich friend. That’s enough for today.

May you… Think And Grow Richer!

Mark
PS. Feel free to add your comments. I’d love to hear from you.

What will ignite your burning desire and motivation?

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Napoleon Hill’s first step to riches is desire. But, according to Mr. Hill, to achieve your dreams you must have a BURNING desire. What will give you that level of desire? I’ve already written about a few of the standard ways to build motivation but today I want to cover an unusual source of desire.

It’s perfectly illustrated by a story that is in today’s news. Today is the 50-year anniversary of the successful launch of Sputnik, the Soviet satellite. Many Americans thought they would be first to successfully launch a satellite but on October 4, 1957 the Soviets won that race. Americans were shocked.

Shock is powerful because it stops you in your tracks and gets your attention. In my opinion, attention is completely undervalued. If you’re not paying attention to what’s going on in your life, you can end up living a life of quiet desperation (just as Emerson said).

Have you ever been shocked by the stresses and pressures of your life?

Maybe you’re shocked because you’re far from living the life of your dreams.

Well, as you’re about to see, you can channel that shock into power.

Once shock has gotten your attention there’s a small window of opportunity. It’s the opportunity to ask …. How can I make things better?

In the case of Sputnik, some of the shock turned to anger. Anger is a powerful source of momentary motivation but if it gets out of control it’ll burn more than just desire.

Fortunately, the shock and anger was channeled into science programs in high schools across America. And it led to the creation of NASA.

Ultimately, a decade later, it turned out that Sputnik had lit the fuse of a much more powerful, focused use of the steps to riches, which I wrote about earlier. But let’s return to how the Sputnik challenge was immediately answered.

For America, the solution was to increase education and use it. That’s a good idea for everyone.

So remember, if you feel shocked or upset. Then turn the spark of shock into fuel.

Focus on ways to improve your life and use Napoleon Hill’s fourth step to riches, specialized knowledge. Turn that knowledge into action and before you know it… you’re launching towards the life of your dreams.

Allow Surprises To Ignite Your Burning Desire And Launch Your Dreams!

Are you setup for poverty or riches?

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Which word in “Think And Grow Rich” is emotionally loaded?

If you guessed the word ‘rich’ you’d be right.

The answer to the below question might surprise you.

What’s the original meaning of the word ‘rich’?

a. Smart and ambitious
b. penny pinching and miserly
c. mighty and noble
d. arrogant and bossy

I’ll give you the answer in a moment but first lets find out if you’re mentally set up for poverty or riches.

Do you want financial freedom?

Most of my readers would answer a resounding ‘Yes!’ but the truth is that your unconscious might say ‘No’.

Consider this statement by Joseph LeDoux, author of the Emotional Brain “Freud was right on the mark when he described consciousness as the tip of the mental iceberg”

That means that most of your thoughts, emotions and behaviors are made unconsciously.

So even if you consciously said you want financial freedom you can be outvoted by your unconscious. And that’s when self-sabotage takes place.

Here’s a 3-minute exercise that can uncover how your unconscious feels about being rich.

Grab a blank sheet of paper or open notepad. For the next 3 minutes, complete the following sentence as many times as you can. Give a different answer each time.

TIP: The trick to making this work is to write as fast as you can and never let your pen (or keyboard if your using it) stop writing.

Rich people are…
Rich people are
Rich people are
Rich people are
Rich people are
Rich people are
Rich people are
Rich people are
Rich people are
Rich people are

When you’re done, see if you entered any negative responses.

Oh, as promised here’s the answer to the question at the top of this post.

The word ‘Rich’ goes back to the Indo-European base ‘reg’ ( means to move in a straight line ). But the original meaning of the word rich was “mighty and noble”

Were you surprised by your answers to any of today’s exercises? Are you setup for riches or poverty? What do you think?
